Job Title: Security Officer Department: Deck Department Reports To: Staff Captain (Chief Officer) Supervises: Security Team Job Summary: The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment on board the cruise ship. They oversee the ship’s security operations, including controlling access to the vessel, monitoring surveillance systems, and responding to security incidents. They work closely with other departments to ensure that both crew and passengers are protected from threats. Key Responsibilities: Security Operations Oversees the implementation of the ship’s security plan. Coordinates with the port authorities, local law enforcement, and customs for security measures during docking. Monitors security systems such as CCTV, alarm systems, and access control mechanisms. Access Control & Boarding Procedures Manages passenger and crew boarding, ensuring only authorized individuals board the vessel. Supervises the screening of luggage and baggage, ensuring no prohibited items are brought on board. Ensures proper documentation for passengers, crew, and visitors onboard. Surveillance & Monitoring Monitors surveillance cameras and performs routine checks to detect suspicious activity. Identifies potential security threats, such as unauthorized boarding or disruptive behavior, and escalates as necessary. Conducts regular patrols of the ship’s internal and external areas to ensure all is secure. Emergency Response & Crisis Management Leads or assists in the response to onboard security threats such as theft, vandalism, or physical altercations. Coordinates with the Captain and officers in managing any security emergencies or evacuations. Responds to and investigates security-related incidents, ensuring proper documentation and reporting. Crew Training & Security Awareness Provides security training to the crew on procedures for handling security breaches and emergency situations. Educates passengers and crew members on onboard safety and security measures. Ensures that crew members are aware of security policies and protocols to prevent unauthorized actions.
Qualifications & Requirements: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or Security Management preferred). Certifications: STCW Certification, Security Awareness Training, and Crowd Management. Experience: 3+ years in maritime security or law enforcement, with at least 1 year of supervisory experience. Skills: Strong communication, crisis management, conflict resolution, and leadership skills. Work Conditions & Benefits: Works on rotational shifts (typically 4-6 months onboard, followed by leave). Salary ranges from $4,000 to $7,500 per month, depending on experience and cruise line. Accommodations, meals, and insurance provided onboard.
